This year, the UN Gender Theme Group invited a number of community-based organizations to be present in the UN Compound in order to give visibility to their work in advancing women and the disadvantaged. Four NGOs; Women in Need (WIN), Women Development Center (WDC), Muslim Women Research Action Forum (MWRAF) and Lanka Plus displayed wares produced by economically marginalized rural women, battered women, HIV positive women and men and abused children.(Text & photo by Surani Perera) |
