The word ‘coordination’ is more than just a buzzword; it has become a byword for a well-calibrated response from aid professionals to the needs of communities. No single UN agency, Non Governmental Organization, or community organization has the full range of skills, knowledge, and experience to tackle the multi-dimensional needs of development or to respond to the full range of needs during an emergency. The UN Country Team is committed, as a matter of efficiency, to pull together the best available organizations and resources to solve aid challenges.
The UN now uses a ‘cluster approach’ when mustering a response. This means that individual agencies are tasked to lead – and to take ultimate responsibility – for pulling together resources and for directing a response. | |
