WFP’s mandate is to help save lives, preserve and improve the nutritional status of the population affected by crisis situations, and to protect and restore their livelihoods. There is a particular emphasis on the special needs of women and children.
WFP began its operations in Sri Lanka in November 1968. Since then, WFP has provided food assistance valued at some 600 million US dollars to the people of Sri Lanka.
